This course offers a unique opportunity to learn and practice a few field and laboratory tools in oceanography, paleoceanography and atmospheric studies. Students taking this course will spend 7 to 14 days on Green Island during May 2020. They will conduct the following tasks: (1) Work on small boat to collect seawater and particles in the upper ocean near Green Island; (2) Learn and identify a few common phytoplankton and zooplankton species under microscopes; (3) Work with world’s leading experts on culture planktonic foraminifera and conduct chemical experiments; (4) Collect aerosol samples; (5) Observe reef ecosystems and understand the biodiversity in reef systems.
Basic living expenses and transportation will be covered. Students with interests can take diving or snorkel courses, but the costs to these courses will not be covered in this course. |
