1. Contents
This class provides an introduction to the fundamentals of photonics, which is used broadly to encompass all of the areas including optics, optical information processing, laser and optoelectronics, etc. The scope of this class is to cover the following areas:
Fundamentals of optics: ray optics, interference, and Gaussian beams
Electromagnetic optics: EM theory of light, polarization for displays and waveguide
Quantum electronics: lasers, photon in semiconductors
Applications: displays, optical data storage, image sensors and optical communications
