課程概述 |
This course seeks to enhance English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing with the goal of orienting students towards academic studies in an English-only environment. The designated textbook will provide a major framework for activities of reading, listening and speaking. In addition, students are required to undertake three kinds of assignments. In the first month, students will write listening logs on short segments taken from American National Public Radio programs. In the middle of the semester, students will learn to develop a point of view and make an argument in the debate exercise. Throughout the semester, the course offers writing sessions to cover fundamentals of paragraph writing. Designed to guide students to understand how they can be personally and intellectually involved in mastering upper-intermediate skills of English, peer collaboration and in-class activities are vital to the learning process. Students will constantly work with other group partners in writing workshops and in-class activities. |
課程目標 |
Toward the end of this semester, the students are expected to
1. comprehend oral English better.
2. learn fundamental reading skills.
3. learn three kinds of basic academic English Writing in paragraph forms.
4. communicate with others in oral English with some fluency.
5. develop a habit to learn English from authentic audio and reading materials.
6. begin to express critical thinking in oral and written forms. |

1. Two Listening Logs (Listening and Writing)
2. Comparison Writing
3. Debate (Oral Delivery and Critical Thinking)
4. Survey Writing
Requirements:
1. Attend the class on time and collaborate with classmates in class activities.
2. Hand in the assignments on time. Late assignments will be subject to point reduction.
3. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
4. Students who miss more than 9 hours will not be allowed to take the final exam. |
