Freshman English Fall 2009
Ann-Marie Hadzima
Thursdays 7,8,9
Freshman English builds on the English foundation in vocabulary and grammar established in high school here in Taiwan by requiring students to present in English their ideas orally and in writing. Students in this section of Freshman English read, discuss, present and write on topics chosen by both the teacher and students themselves. This section is a full-year course meeting three hours a week.
The semester begins with a series of lectures and exercises in presentation skills and academic composition skills followed by the teacher demonstrating a topic presentation to be used as a standard in this course. Students will then use this standard in making their own group presentation on a variety of topics. Grading is determined by a group presentation and three in-class compositions each semester.
This course is designed for students who are motivated towards achieving excellence in English, who are willing to make a consistent effort throughout the course and who want to enjoy communicating formally (presentations and compositions) in English.
