This course is focused on the process of writing university-level compositions in
English. It takes a process approach to writing, and students are required to do at least two drafts of each composition they write in this course. Topics that are covered in the course include the following:
Developing a writer stance
Understanding your audience
Prewriting to discover a thesis
Paragraph structure and its importance to the unity of a composition
Word choice
Recognizing and writing powerful sentences.
The hallmarks of a good writer
The hallmarks of a good reader
Most compositions written for this course are submitted to the teacher and peer group members by email attachment. Most feedback is given using the eview?feature of the Microsoft Word software program. Students taking this section of Sophomore Composition should be familiar with both email and the Microsoft Word programs.
Students enrolled in this course are required to attend classes, participate fully in peer group analysis of compositions. Approximately four compositions (each of which have at least two draft versions) are required per semester.
