Course Description

Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world. In the United States, for example, the Spanish-speaking population is growing rapidly. Some experts even believe that in the future, the English-speaking population will be surpassed. For Taiwan, the importance of Spanish is also highlighted by its diplomatic relations with many Latin American countries.
This course aims to provide the students with the fundamentals of Spanish and it also introduces very general aspects of the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. This course is constructed according to the contents of Virgilio Borobio's book ELE Actual A1 and some extra material provided by the teacher. Borobio´s book is based on a communicative approach to language teaching, so that its contents (as well as this course’s lessons) emphasize not so much the acquiring of knowledge of the Spanish language per se, but the acquiring of communicative skills using the Spanish language.

Course Objective
At the end of the course the students should be able to:
- Introduce themselves and greet other people in both formal and informal situations.
- Tell and ask for personal basic information, such as nationality, address, occupation, age, marital status, etc.
- Introduce their family members
- Describe a person’s physical appearance and character
- Ask for the price of something and buy things at a store
- Describe their city and country
Course Requirement
There are no especial prerequisites for students who want to enroll in this course. They only need to have interest for the language.
The classes in this course are designed to provide the students with plenty of opportunities to practice the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. Therefore, it is necessary that the students participate actively in all the exercises and activities.
