課程概述

Course Description:
This course will introduce participants to some of the key issues and recent developments in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Major themes and issues to be covered include: English globalization, Teaching English in the Context of World Englishes, English as a lingua franca, non-native-English-speaking teachers in the profession, bilingualism and bilingual education, English education in East Asian countries, and relevant issues concerning English language education in Taiwan.

Course Objectives:
This course is designed to (a) familiarize participants, particularly students enrolled in NTU’s secondary school English teacher education program, with recent research on several key issues and developments in TESOL, and (b) explore their practical implications for English instruction. 
課程要求
Requirements:
Attendance: Throughout the whole semester, you are allowed to have one absence (or 2 class periods in total) without penalty. Your grade is subject to reduction for any additional absences and/or lateness.
No make-up quizzes/test, demonstrations, or presentations: If you miss the class or are late to class and thus miss any of the scheduled presentations, demonstrations, or quizzes/tests, no make-up opportunities will ever be granted.
Cooperate and interact with your classmates and instructor: It is particularly important that all participants in this course learn from one another by actively taking part in class discussions and activities, and by interacting and exchanging ideas with fellow students and the instructor.
Preview assigned reading(s) before class: The class is structured in a way that requires you to read the assigned course reading(s) before you come to our weekly class meetings.
No auditors allowed.
