課程概述 |
Course Description:
The course aims to bring breadth and depth in understanding the fraught issue of race in America by surveying the representative dramatic literature of some of its main ethnicities: that of African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, and Jewish-American.
Students are expected to select one ethnicity for major research, and another for secondary research; with the former to be presented in a research term paper, the latter in an oral presentation. Besides dramatic texts, secondary archival materials, including films, documentaries, and sound recordings, will be sourced through the course.
|
課程目標 |
Course Objectives:
Through studying the major plays of each ethnic group, ordered mostly chronologically, it is hoped that students can acquire not only analytic insight by close reading of the text, but also extensive knowledge of the historical and cultural context of each individual ethnicity by researching and discussing secondary text, and visual, audio sources.
|
課程要求 |
