This course attempts to provide an opportunity to look at drama and theatre in particular historical contexts from the mid-20th century to the present day. This spring semester we will focus on Waiting for Godot, The Birthday Party, Top Girls, Master Harold…and the boys, and Closer. We will explore the various styles of the plays and how they have contributed to the innovations in both the acting practices and the textual constructions. We will also cover some of the highlights of each playwright’s career. A combination of lecture/discussion will be the main format of the class.
