Course Description
This course is designed to be a general introduction to two important American women poets, Sylvia Plath and Elizabeth Bishop. Students will be led to explore the themes/dimensions of identity/identification, knowledge, and language/style in the works of the two poets.

Course Objectives
This course aims to
* give a general introduction to the works of two important American women poets, Sylvia Plath and Elizabeth Bishop;
* lead the students to explore the themes/dimensions of identity/identification, knowledge, and language/style of the two poets;
* familiarize the students with issues of gender and sexuality.

Students are required to
1. regularly attend class and participate in discussion;
2. do homework regularly;
3. write short essays on the poems of the two poets.
