課程概述 |
Course Description
This course covers four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This course employs authentic listening materials to improve students’ communicative competence in real-life contexts. In addition, students will read articles addressing a variety of topics for the purpose of improving reading skills and building up vocabulary.

Course Objectives
The goal of this course is to improve students’ holistic proficiency in English. This course aims to increase students’ practice in listening and speaking. For pragmatic ends, this course will illuminate communication appropriateness in various contexts.

Course Requirements
1. Writing Assignments: Each student is required to compose 3 essays (typewritten, single-spaced, font size 12); due dates are indicated on the course schedule. All writing assignments should be uploaded to CEIBA by no later than 24:00 on the due date. NOTE: No late papers will be accepted except by special permission in advance.
(1)&(2)&(3) Three 4-paragraph essays (each 200-250 words, maximum).
The topic will be assigned in advance. You should, from your point of view, provide 2 illustrative examples of the main issue/concept to support your perspective. (Each 10% of final grade)
2. Final exam: Final exam contains multiple-choice questions, measuring your listening comprehension, vocabulary, and knowledge of grammaticality. (30% of final grade)
3. Quizzes, Presentation, and Activities: Quizzes, group discussions, and role play activities are imperative parts of this class. Attendance and active participation in this class are central parts of the learning process, and all comments and points of view on class topics and related issues are encouraged. (40% of final grade)
