Before you choose this section of Freshman English, please consider the following:
1. Readings are selected from classic essays and literature of some difficulty.
2. Full participation in class activities and discussions is required.
3. The grade of A+ is rare and reserved only for exceptional achievement.

This section of Freshman English stresses language production and creative expression through exposure to diverse forms of writing and speech. Readings will be drawn from personal essays and contemporary journalism in the first semester; in the second semester, we will venture into short stories, poetry, and mythology. Frequent writing exercises are designed to relate the course material to your own experience and engage your powers of critical thinking. Through weekly group discussions and presentations, there will also be plenty of opportunity to practice your oral skills. The course is taught in an English-speaking environment.
