課程概述

This is an integrated language course tailored for non-English majors. It is designed to help students at high intermediate level to make full use of their current English proficiency and to further upgrade it to advanced level. It demands a lot of hard work and challenges the students to develop higher cognitive skills. It also aims at developing in the students an interest in learning English, further understanding of the English culture, critical thinking, and creativity.

While Internet is the key source of listening and reading materials, some language course books will also be consulted. Every 3-hour session will start with exercises in vocabulary and listening, continue with class discussion of assigned reading materials, and end with task-based speaking activities. A quiz on vocabulary and the reading materials will be held every month and an oral examination on the task-based speaking activities will take place at the end of the semester. The students will also need to submit three pieces of writing (Submission dates: weeks 7, 11, and 15)
