English for Non-Majors
Aimed at enhancing the four skills, this one-semester course will improve students’ability to think and argue in English in an effective way.
(1) Selected readings cover a wide range of topics such as topical issues from "BBC Words in the News," differences between the sexes, speed dating, and behavior training.
(2) Writing will focus on formal business letter, resume and paragraph writing.
(3) Listening materials are chiefly selected from Audio-visual materials available in the library at Foreign Language Teaching & Resource Center, and BBC's online“Learning English".
(4) Speaking aims at daily life conversation and topic-oriented presentation for college-level work.
The class will be organized around lectures and student discussions/presentations, and it is designed to be collaborative throughout. Assignments will include compositions, transcripts of challenging listening materials, light-hearted impromptu speeches, presentation of assigned topics, and performance of a playlet.

The final grade will be based on exams, tests, presentations, performances, discussions and class participation (each ranges from 5%-35%), processed at Ceiba and open to inquiries. Refer to 『成績』for details.
