課程概述 |
This section of Freshman English is designed as an English Workshop. It aims to help students improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities through various activities and exposure to a wide variety of materials in English. Using resources such as interviews, news videos, documentary films, and intriguing talks on the Internet, we will focus on issues in the contemporary world. Students are expected to spend twenty minutes a day (two to three hours in total for a week) to prepare for class, probably including listening to an interview, reading online resources, or watching a video, in order to equip themselves with necessary knowledge and vocabulary for class discussion. In class, we will further explore the topic of the week through group discussion. In this semester, students will write three concluding paragraphs (around 200 words) to express his or her viewpoints after a topic is discussed. Besides this, one-third of in-class activities will focus on speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. We will talk about how to write good sentences, how to write a good paragraph, how to speak clearly, and how to read stories. Finally, students need to design and perform an Interview Scenario as the term project. |
