課程概述

This course aims to develop students’ integrated skills in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing and the ability for autonomous and cooperative learning. Students will be guided to use language learning strategies for effective learning and practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing individually, in pairs, or small groups with audio-visual materials and online resources in the student-centered classroom.

The course welcomes those students who take their learning seriously and have a solid drive to improve their English proficiency. Since English learning should not be limited in the classroom, students will be encouraged to plan their language learning, participate in group and web-based activities, use language-learning resources on campus, and complete personal English portfolios at the end of the semester.

本課程旨在增進學生英語聽說讀寫四方面技能整合性之運用以及培養學生自主與合作學習的能力。教學方式以啟發學生自我學習為主,在教師協助下,配合視聽教材及電腦網路資源的運用,安排學生,或個人或小組,加強聽講、會話、閱讀和寫作之練習,並佐以學習策略之訓練。

英語的學習應不僅限於學校課堂裡,因此本課程為培養學生自主性學習,將輔導學生自行規畫課內外之語言學習,於學期末完成個人學習歷程檔案。 

課程目標
This course aims to develop students’ integrated skills in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing and the ability for autonomous and cooperative learning. In other words, one of the goals is to cultivate students’ fundamental core abilities and prepare them for future EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) courses.

課程要求
Students must attend all classes in the first week to enroll in the course.

Students will use computer and the Internet for course activities and assignments. In addition to the three hours spent in the classroom, students are expected to spend at least the same amount of time out of class for preview and review.

Students have to preview the assigned readings and finish assignments before class to be able to participate fully in class discussion. Active participation and attendance on time in all class activities are required. Students are required to apply for a leave at the myNTU system for their absence. Anyone missing the equivalence of five weeks or more of class will automatically fail this course.

Students must log in the course Web site regularly (at least once weekly) to update course news and complete assignments. Students with the approved leave may turn in assignments within a week but will receive 80% of their final score. Overdue assignments and plagiarism will NOT be accepted.

Students will work closely with their group members to participate in and share group discussion. Each student will make three project reports and one show-and-tell presentation in class. (Details will be discussed in class).

開學第一週必須出席確認選課。若不能出席,請依請假規定事先請假。無故缺席者視同退選。

因課程設計之故,歡迎有意願使用電腦及網際網路的學生,以及每週除上課三小時外,願意自己安排等量時間完成預習、複習功課。

修課學生請準時到校上課,充分準備並積極參與討論及練習活動,每週按時完成作業,以獲得最大學習成效。上課遲到者須主動報到,有事請假或早退者,須事先報備,以免誤記為該堂課缺席。

課程評量著重平時、聽說讀寫多樣化評量,包含課堂參與、隨堂練習測驗、及定期作業。事先請假缺課者須在一星期內補齊任何課堂作業,成績打八折。若未在時限內完成繳交,以零分計。考試作弊按校規處分。

未能出席上課者,請依規定使用本校學生請假系統請假。未經准假或假期已滿而缺課者,以曠課論,曠課一小時,以請假五小時論。平時請假達學期授課時數五分之一者,降該科學期成績一等第為原則,達四分之一者,降該科學期成績二等第為原則,無特殊原因請假達三分之一者,成績以零分計算,X 等第登錄。(請參照國立臺灣大學學則第四章)。

同學需積極參與小組討論,充分準備並完成相關作業。口頭報告詳細內容於課堂討論。
