課程概述 |
This course aims to provide the undergraduates with some basic notions of semiotics and current contexts of popular culture. It discusses and illustrates the main trends, ideas and figures of semiotics, leading to examples of application found in our everyday lives. Students are guided to explore the phenomena of pop by way of looking into human desire for attentive watching, imagining and communicating. Students are encouraged to work out their own case studies which elaborate on (1) their integration of perspectives concerning multimedial experiences; (2) their refashioning and reinterpretation of certain trendy products or phenomena; (3) their strategies of dealing with social media, technology and change. |
課程目標 |
Designed as a step-by-step introduction, this course induces students to reflect on a couple of issues: (1) what communication will be like in the future; (2) how we can improve approaches to studying art, nature and culture; (3) how we can use semiotics to enhance our general wellbeing in the global village.
|
課程要求 |
Students are required to (1) preview contents for each week; (2) participate rigorously in discussions; (3) present briefings of midterm and final papers; (4) submit midterm and final papers.
