課程概述

課程編號:102 48070 德國詩歌與音樂之本質及關係研究二 教師: 歐博遠

Course Description
While my course during First Semester [under the same title] had as its objective to lead students into the domain of nowadays two very differently seen disciplines (Poetry, Music), Part II will focus on the fundamentals of those distictions and their existing relationships. From now on, it will be our task to show that ‘Poetry’ and ‘Music’ exist each in the content of the other. As we have tried to clarify at the hand of examples that basically contain both media (words and musical sound as well as mental structures, like in lieder or choral works), we now investigate those mental structures that are part of ‘Absolute Musik’ (as put it Eduard Hanslick, the eminent Music critique) or, on the other part, those works of Poetry where usually no musician would try to set foot in because they simply are not promising any ability on their ‘surface’ to create a plausible relationship with musical imagination. In this course, we will also try to give an overwiev of the two disciplines from Antiquity to the present day, that is, from the time when there did not even exist two different words to distinguish them; it should lead to the time when the separation of the technical terms was perfected and up to our present-day understanding of the problem. We should also teach some basic ideas on musical Semantics that sheds a light on the expressivity of the medium of Music that transgresses its boundaries. All this has to be demonstrated by audio-visually prepared examples and, in certain cases, right on the piano.

課程目標
Course Objectives
The objectives are basically the same as in the previous Semester. They change only by the choice of content that switches, as I have shown above, more to the ‘inherent’ part of Poetry in Music and vice versa. Furthermore, we should arrive at a level where students can clearly understand what academically adopted distinctions would mean in this context.
