課程概述

本學期講授的是以目前受到注意、但又十分令人望而卻步的後現代史學的理論為主，每次上課頭一節主講當前後現代史學的最主要倡導者之一近年來的作品Alun Munslow,A History of History (New York: Routledge, 2013)之第四章、第六章及第七章的全書精華部分；第二節課則精讀Alun Munslow ed., Authoring the Past, Writing and Rethinking History(New York: Routledge, 2013)其中三篇知名學者著作：Richard Price, "Practices of Historical Narrative"; Patrick Joyce, "More Secondary Modern Than Postmodern"; Robert A. Rosenstone, 'Coffessions of a Postmodern (?) Historian'，將以逐字深度解析為主，使得同學能對後現代史學的理論及問題有所理解及掌握,俾使同學得以在進行史學的訓練過程中，可以知道當代最流行的趨勢，運用在實際研究上以得事半功倍的效果。（請注意，本課程並非全英文授課，無法理解、閱讀、書寫中文者，請勿選修）

課程目標

本系學生對於西洋史學比較陌生，一方面是因為這方面的課較少; 也因為對於英文的理解能力較弱，解讀這類高度理論性的文句需要格外的付出，且若無人指導，容易造成瞎子摸象的結果；另一方面，史學理論及方法日新月異，從一九六○年代以來，史學的新趨勢就經歷了社會學，人類學及文化史的幾種重要衝擊，更重要的，後現代主義對傳統史學進行了相當大的顛覆，對於這些變化的掌握，將其深入淺出的讓有興趣的同學能吸收，是開本課的最大目的. 然而數千年的西洋史學涵蓋甚廣，只能取其對本系同學最有意義的部份。

課程要求

本課有二特色，一為探討史學理論的前沿，並解讀較深奧的英文史學理論；另一為增加本系學生的英文程度，相信在此地很少有類似的課程，因此有大一英文程度的同學若有堅持的毅力及勤學苦讀,將會有很大的收穫。本課因為要求同學參與的部分很多,因此必須常來上課，若不能經常準時出席，切勿來上此課. 另外，本課要求每位同學在期中選一位相關的西洋學者就其史學理論進行書面的報告，以作為期中分數的依據之一。
