課程概述

This course focuses on conveying philosophical ideas and arguments in English. It has two main pillars. The first pillar comprises two sets of readings which will be discussed in class. The readings cover the history of philosophy as well as recent philosophical perspectives on metaphor. The second pillar consists in practical training that culminates in the writing of a final essay. This training has several components to it: selecting a topic/gathering material (electronic library resources), reading (what/how to read), writing (writing strategies), and presentation (how to make an effective PowerPoint).

課程目標
After taking this course, students are expected to have an improved competence in communicating philosophical ideas in English, to have a better understanding of key philosophical concepts and issues, and to have had some practice with the various components involved in writing a philosophy essay.
課程要求
Students are expected to prepare the course materials before class and to engage in discussion. The first pillar requires them to write one review (history of philosophy) and to participate in a group presentation (metaphor theory). For the second pillar, students need to complete one bibliographic assignment, hand in a digest of their selected readings, present their essay during panel presentations, and submit the final essay.
