課程概述

哲學英文是為哲學系學生與想要了解英文哲學文本的學生所設計的。課程將結合閱讀的技巧、想法的表達以及以英文寫作哲學報告。課程結合講學、練習、討論和口頭報告。 

課程目標
 這門課程試圖培養哲學系(以及其他相關學系)學生理解哲學文本、表達自己的想法以及英文哲學寫作的能力。 
課程要求
 1. Middle term and Final exams.
2. The divisions of 7 discussion groups and each needs to read three texts beforehand by summarizing texts and asking question.
3. All the students need to answer these question by tracking answers from the texts they read beforehand.
4. The group which is responsible for the texts needs to hand out an abstract of the three texts that they read together.

3. Mental states

Paul Bloom: The Duel between Body and Soul
Paul Churchland: Eliminative Materialism and the Propositional Attitudes
4. Free will
Kai Nielson: The Compatibility of Freedom and Determinism
Roderick Chisholm: Human Freedon and the Self
Galen Strawson: The Impossibility of Moral Responsibility
5. Meta-ethics
Plato: Why Be Moral?
Alfred Ayer: Emotivism
James Rachels: The Challenge of Cultural Relativism
6. Normative ethics

Immanuel Kant: Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals
