課程概述 |
This course will introduce main issues, debates, and problems in naturalistic epistemology. The naturalistic project, launched in Quine's seminal paper "Epistemology Naturalized," differs from and brings impact on the traditional conception of epistemology. We will begin with Quine's paper and explore major topics including (1) reasons for the naturalistic project, (2) the reductive approach and the eliminative approach, (3) probable contributions by contemporary cognitive sciences, (4) causal theory of knowing and reliabilism as examples, and (5) natural kinds and naturalistic epistemology. |

課程目標 |
To introduce students to get familiar with the development of contemporary naturalistic epistemology and issues and debates involved in this area, the basic difference between the naturalistic conception of epistemology and the traditional conception, and to explore the possibility of introducing cognitive sciences to epistemological researches. |

This course will be conducted in English. Familiarity with introductory level epistemology is required. |
