課程概述

本課程專門針對英文哲學論文之閱讀與翻譯，以奠定哲學系學生從事學術研究之外語基礎。英文為國際通用之學術語言，哲學之研究，不分東西方，不能避免閱讀英文文獻。本系課程多已使用英文教材，但罕就語言之閱讀與翻譯來加強學生之英文能力。本課程作為「哲學英文」之進階課程，特就閱讀與翻譯來訓練本系學生。
本課程採小班教學，無教學助理，所有成績評量均由教師本人親力親為。

課程目標

（一）增進本系學生對於英文哲學論文之閱讀能力，尤其是對於論證的把握。本系學士班核心能力之一為「具備哲學英文表達及論證的能力」，英文閱讀能力為表達及論證能力之條件。
（二）增進本系學生對於英文哲學作品之翻譯能力。現今臺灣出版之哲學書籍罕有哲學系畢業學生所翻譯者，因此其內容涉及哲學概念與論證往往不夠精確；如果這一類書籍都由哲學系畢業學生來翻譯，一方面可使中譯的哲學作品更臻精確，另一方面則可增加哲學系學生就業之機會。翻譯為閱讀能力之直接表現；本課程藉由英文哲學論文之閱讀，以及將其翻譯為中文，增進學生翻譯外國哲學作品之能力。

課程要求

已取得「哲學英文」學分之哲學系學生優先。
