課程概述 |
This course focuses on conveying philosophical ideas and arguments in English. It has two main pillars. The first pillar is a series of recorded conversations on a number of individual philosophers, with edited, published texts. The second pillar consists in practical training that culminates in the writing of a final essay. This training comprises several components: selecting a topic/gathering material (electronic library resources), reading (what/how to read), writing (writing strategies), and presentation (how to make an effective PowerPoint). |
課程目標 |
After taking this course, students are expected to have an improved competence in communicating philosophical ideas in English, have a better understanding of philosophical issues, and have had some practice with the various components involved in writing a philosophy essay. |
課程要求 |
Students are expected to prepare the course materials before class and to engage in discussion. The first pillar requires them to write two summary-style reviews and to take turns in briefly answering the designated questions in writing before class. For the second pillar, students have to complete one bibliographic assignment, hand in a summary of their selected readings, present their essay during panel presentations, and submit the final essay. |
