課程概述 |
本課程討論從舊石器時代早期人類活動到希臘化時期的古希臘歷史和考古學。課程的時間順序包括各種主題,包括愛琴海最早的社會、青銅時代的宮殿文明、黑暗時代和幾何時期、東方化和古代時期、希臘城邦的興起、古典時期的雅典,以及亞歷山大大帝及其繼任者的遺產。還涵蓋了古希臘生活和社會的主題,包括宗教、家庭和公共生活方式、埋葬習俗以及與其他文化的互動。
This course discusses the history and archaeology of ancient Greece from the early human activities during the Paleolithic period through to the Hellenistic period. The chronological sequence of lectures consists of a variety of topics, including the earliest societies in the Aegean, Bronze Ages palatial civilizations, the Dark Ages and the geometric period, the Orientalizing and Archaic period, the rise of the Greek city-states, the Classical Athens, and the legacy of Alexander the Great and his successors. Topics of ancient Greek life and society, including religion, domestic and public lifestyles, burial practices and interactions with other cultures are also covered. |

在本課程結束時,學生應該能夠

By the end of this course, students should be able to
?obtain a sound knowledge of key aspects of textual and archaeological records and cultural sequences, including major events, historical processes, cultural interaction, material culture, artistic and architectural achievements in the ancient Greece;
?gain experience in synthesizing, using and presenting archaeological data and textual evidence for investigating questions of general socio-cultural significance;
?develop critical thinking and research skills;
?develop English written and oral communication skills. |

課程要求 |
1.修習本課的同學必須閱讀指定文章,並參與課堂討論。
2.必須依組選擇研究主題,並上台進行小組報告。
3.繳交期中作業(海報)。
1. Students are required to read the designated articles, and participate in class discussions.
2. Each group are required to select a topic and present a group project.
3. Students are required to submit the mid-term assignment (poster).
學生預計每週需要花兩個小時準備和復習課程內容。
Students are expected to spend two hours for preparation and revision of course contents each week. |
