課程概述

This 3-credit, undergraduate level course will introduce you to the basic operations and theoretical issues in modern archives administration. Archives are a social institution that preserves important individual and organizational records and manuscripts, which constitute the collective memory or a society. Archives and libraries are both memory organizations. They share many similarities in their operations and services. But they also differ in many aspects from the nature of the collected materials to the unique challenges in the digital age. This class is desiged to offer you an overview of the issues facing the archival profession. 

課程目標
By attending the class you will:
1.Understand the basic concepts and principles of archival practices.
2.Gain in-depth understanding on selected issues in archives administration.
3.Understand the concerns, debates, and trends of development in the archival profession. 
課程要求
For students outside the LIS department, some level of understanding of the library science is desired as the course will continously draw comparisons between libraries and archival institutions.

Successful completion of this course requires passing of exams, assignments, and active participation in class activities. Specific requirements will be announced in the first class meeting.
