Objectives of cataloging are discussed from the aspect of organization for information. Students are required to understand the basic principles of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules. Dewey Decimal Classification and the Library of Congress Classification are two classification schemes which students need to be familiar with. Library of Congress Subject Heading Lists and other vocabulary controlled lists are introduced. This course also includes topics related to the organization of web resources and digital resources, such as metadata, search engines, interoperability, etc. |
