課程概述 |
In the field of theatrical design, whether it's stage, costume, lighting, or projection design, presenting creative ideas through sketching, modeling, or color renderings requires a basic understanding of proportion, spatial perspective, texture, materials, and color theory.
Basic Design will study of the fundamental elements and principles of design and will train students to use these terms and concepts to analyze and appreciate visual composition. It will then introduce the student to basic design and art techniques (drawing techniques, principles of perspective, color theory, and three-dimensional structure, etc) to help students develop sensitivity to form, composition, and color through practical exercises.
The course includes extensive discussion &critique time, encouraging students to grow by appreciating each other's designs and learning from one another. |
|
課程目標 |
• To learn basic design expression techniques and improve students’ observational skills through lectures, discussions and weekly homework.
• To introduce students to exhibitions, museums, artists & designers to broaden their horizons.
• To learn how to transform design concepts and ideas in your mind into physical works by using the elements & principals of design. |

---
* We will use NTU COOL to give assignments, handouts, and reading materials. We will also use it to collect digital copies of assignments you turn in. Grades will be posted on there as well- SO CHECK NTU COOL!
* Please buy a SKETCHBOOK and use it as your NOTEBOOK during class. Take paper notes; there will be many things that need to be described and recorded in the course (design terms, drawing techniques, processes, artists names, different art materials will be used each week, assignment details, etc). So please takes notes, do drawings, and put everything into your sketchbook!
* Design techniques require continuous practice to improve, so this course attaches great importance to the presentation of works every week (critiques).
* In class, everyone needs to actively participate in discussions and critiques and appreciate other students' works (which can improve their visual acuity).
* This course will require basic design, drawing and other art tools. A preliminary list will be handed out on the first day of class and discussed. But new supplies will be needed as the class goes on. Please be prepared by having the properly specify tools and materials when needed.
Students will be required to go to museum and/or gallery at least two times during the class and write a report. I encourage students to see more exhibitions.
ATTENDANCE & GRADING POLICY:
* Attendance is mandatory. Students who are absent from class three times will receive a failing grade.
* Being late twice is equivalent to one absence.
* If students receive four Fs on assignments, the student will fail the class.
* Returned Assignments (R) can be turned in the following week (but not after that).
* Late assignments will not be accepted (unless prior arrangement made with Dan).
* Anyone found plagiarizing will be deemed to have failed. AI is not to be used for any projects.
* No mobile phones, tablets, laptops or other electronic devices are to be used during class. Use your paper notebook to take notes. If you are found using electronic device, the 1st time you will asked to put it away. If you use it again in any class, you will be asked to leave class and marked absent.
