課程概述 |
The second half of the 19th century witnesses two trends: the cross-fertilization between literature and art and the cross-reference between high-brow and popular culture. Recent scholarship emphasizes the inter-relationship between different dimensions of culture. The range of this course covers these grounds with foci on the nostalgic tendency, the subject of women and the increasing importance of material culture. Three subjects of inquiry include the intellectual views and aesthetic techniques of Pre-Raphaelite school, Aestheticism and fin-de-siecle cultural phenomena. In the end, students are facilitated with comprehensive views on cultural background to produce insightful interpretation of literary, artistic and popular texts.
