課程概述 |
This is an English course and is designed for both international students who want to acquire basic knowledge about the main issues and arguments in Chinese classical philosophy, and for Chinese students who want to learn skills to ponder and discuss the relevant subjects in English. The course provides a contextual and evolutionary account for how various Chinese classical thoughts came into several highly organized socio-political theories, with particular focus on the great intellectual development between the late 4th and the early 3rd century BC. |
課程目標 |
This is an English course and is designed for both international students who want to acquire basic knowledge about the main issues and arguments in Chinese classical philosophy, and for Chinese students who want to learn skills to ponder and discuss the relevant subjects in English. |
課程要求 |
The course begins with the discussion about the issue concerning the definition of schools of Chinese classical thought adopted by traditional and modern scholars. Accordingly, it will present an evolutionary picture of pre-Han thought. In the last part, it will focus on the issue on why Confucianism has occupied a dominant position in the consequent history. Each seminar will be proceeded in three steps: (1) short presentation about reading materials by participants, (2) lecture, and (3) reading and explication of source materials relevant to the topic. Thus, instructor requests ALL participants to read reading materials in advance. |
