課程概述 |
This course investigates a central topic in the philosophy of mind the nature of perception. We will consider the following issues: what is the best explanation of the representational content of perceptual experiences? What exactly is sensory awareness? What is the relation between these two components of perception? The distinctive approach in this course is that empirical research will be incorporated into our investigation. We will inquire how vision science and philosophy may influence each other. More specifically, we will examine some recent philosophical theories of perception in light of vision science. Also, we will discuss how vision science may be understood from the philosophical perspectives.
Topics:
1. Traditional Issues
2. Vision Science
3. Perceptual Anti-individualism
4. The Two-Component Theory
5. Sensory Awareness
6. Perceptual Intentionality

課程目標 |
There are three goals in this course: first, we aim to obtain a deeper understanding of the nature of perception. Second, students learn how to read philosophical texts carefully and write clearly. Third, students try to develop their own thoughts on some of the important issues. |
課程要求 |
學生除了得花功夫研讀困難的哲學作品,在上課時參與討論,評估各種立場的論證,也需要在作業中提出自己的觀點,並加以辯護。 |
