課程概述

The Frankfurt Cases are thought experiments proposed firstly by Harry Frankfurt as counter-examples to the “principle of alternative possibilities (PAP)”. PAP claims that agents are morally responsible for their actions only if and because they could have acted otherwise. If successful, the Frankfurt Cases will be a strong challenge to PAP. After Frankfurt, many philosophers including John Martin Fischer and David Widerker etc. started to debate on this topic. Alfred R. Mele, David Robb, Derk Pereboom and many others also proposed stronger versions of the Frankfurt Cases. The objective of this course is to discuss in detail the perspectives of Frankfurt and many philosophers after him about the Frankfurt Cases, in order to study this issue thoroughly.

課程目標
To familiarize students with different versions of the Frankfurt Cases and the relevant discussions, in order to facilitate the research about the ground of moral responsibility.
