Course Description

Does time flow? Are past or future things as real as the present things? How do we know it is ‘now?’ In addressing these issues, a species of metaphysical theories of time has drawn much metaphysical and epistemological attention in the recent literature. In this course, we will explore this widely discussed species of theories and evaluate criticisms of them.

Course Objective
The goal of this course is to explore recent metaphysics of time, to learn how to analyze and critically evaluate philosophical views on the issues, and to develop and articulate your own views. To achieve this goal, the course relies heavily on dialogues, presentations, and writing.
Course Requirement
Each student is expected to read the assignments before class, attend every class, and participate in in-class discussions. Essays should focus on showing your own philosophical assessment and argument about a given view.
