課程概述 |
人類與植物間的互動具有漫長的歷史,過往考古學受限於其理論視角,僅重視特定穀類作物的栽培歷史,忽略了人類與不同植物間不同的互動樣態。近年來,考古學科自身的反思及來自不同知識傳統的批判,考古學逐漸意識到過往研究的侷限,運用更多的理論框架及方法,重新爬梳人與植物在這漫長歷史長流中,可能有的互動關係。而這樣的認識,更希望可以為我們提供面對氣候變遷、糧食不足等當代危機的另類思考。
本課程分為兩個課程名稱,分別為“植物考古學”及“植物考古學:方法論與實習”。由於兩門課為共同規劃,所以此兩門必須共同選修,無法僅選修一門。此課程包含演講及實驗室課程,教授植物考古學之理論、方法及相關考古學應用。其中有四週時間將由倫敦大學的Cristina Castillo博士進行線上授課,Castillo博士為植物考古學者,過去的研究區域主要是在東南亞區域,然而近年來也參與非洲的植物考古學研究,他將透過一系列的線上演講讓同學們了解植物考古學的主旨、方法及詮釋的可能。由於本課程亦包含實驗室實習的部分,主要進行植物種子的分類及辨識,由於設備限制,將採取登記制,利用非課堂時間進行,請同學要斟酌時間。
除Castillo博士的演講,本課程將透過閱讀不同理論框架下,植物考古學研究的個案研究進行討論,希望透過此課程,同學可以習得如何運用田野及實驗室植物考古學的相關操作,對過去人類與植物間的關係進行不同的探討。本課程亦邀請數位目前從事相關植物考古學研究的學者進行專題演講。

課程要求 |
本課程分為兩個課程名稱,分別為“植物考古學”及“植物考古學:方法論與實習”。由於兩門課為共同規劃,所以此兩門必須共同選修,無法僅選修一門。
本課程要求同學每週課前能完成文本閱讀,撰寫閱讀心得,並於每週三中午前上傳至NTU Cool上,遲交者將會影響期末成績。
課堂的進行方式以討論為主,同學將輪流負責針對每週的文本進行導讀。
本課程另需完成6小時的實習課,包涵土壤浮選及植物種子的分類。

This lecture will provide an overview of archeobotany, its uses / applications, limitations, and the questions archaeobotany can address. How do archaeobotanical remains preserve? We will look at recovery techniques, and what happens with the collected material from fieldwork to the laboratory.
