The Topical seminar on eBook (126M0700) studies the concurrent phenomenon of digital reading with various resources through different perspectives from international stakeholders. Being an advanced course under the curriculum of digital reading in library and information science, critical facts and issues including content, software and hardware regarding eBook and digital reading will be discussed and experienced through workshop format to develop more comprehensive understanding toward the phenomenon. Students of their senior or graduate studies who possessed basic training and knowledge in multimedia production and library science are encouraged to take the course.
This course introduces key ebook concepts, standards, and organizations, and outlines how ebook is distributed in today’s reading and publishing landscape. Topics include the evolution of reading in the context of the history of book and publishing; the development of standards of ebook format, a review of major industrial players, and an overview of the flow of information in the creation and distribution of ebook.
