課程概述 |
This course is designed to understand the South Asian (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Tibet) cultures, mainly through the introduction to the World Cultural Heritage. In historical context, this area has acted as the coexistence place of large influenced Asian religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam. To understand Asian arts and cultures, historical background of this area is thought as the most important element. By means of basic introduction of the World Cultural Heritage in this area, I will explain the basic ideas of culture and arts in this area and the multiplicity of cultural standard in Asia. |

Week1: Introduction (1)
Week2: the Early cultures (Mohenjo-daro)
Week3-8: Buddhism Culture (Sanchi, Gandhara, Gupta, Pala, Sri Lanka, Nepal/Tibet)
Week9-12: Hinduism Culture (Ellora, Mahabalipulam, Konarak, Hampi)
Week13-16: Islam Culture (Qutub Minar, Tatta, Fatehpur Sikri, Taj Mahal)
Week17: Colonial Culture (Shivaji Terminus)
Week18: Other arts (cloth & dance)

課程要求 |
大三以上 both undergraduate (for junior and senior only) and graduate students.
Requirement: This course will be conducted in English. Students who will attend this course should have the desire to understand basic geographical knowledge of South Asian area.
Writing term papers (possible in Chinese without place name). |
