1.本課程適合初級三以上程度的學習者，也就是至少學習完《實用視聽華語(一)》，能掌握450個以上中文詞彙量，或是在臺灣中文學習總時數達到160小時 (或在其他國家地區達320小時) 的學生，或已通過臺灣TOCFL華語文能力測驗入門級或HSK漢語水平考試第2級的學生。
This class is limited to students of Elementary Level Three (or above). They should have finished at least the textbook Practical Audio-Visual Chinese I or be capable of more than 450 Chinese vocabulary or have taken Chinese classes for more than 160 hours in Taiwan (In other countries, students should have taken Chinese classes for more than 320 hours). Students who pass TOCFL Band B or HSK level 2 can also take this course.

2.利用視覺性圖像幫助學生記憶漢字，講解與教材選用以方便學生學習為出發點，造字創意的探討非本課程核心。課堂上之漢字講解將擇取較無爭議者，學術界普遍不接受的說法將略去不述。
Visual aids are used in this course to help students memorize Chinese characters. Related explanations and teaching aids offered in class aim to assist students in understanding the course content, rather than to investigate the original process of character creation.

3.本課程授課語言以中文為主，英文為輔。
The course would be lectured mainly in Chinese, and supportively in English.
