課程概述 |
Course Description
This is a practical course in Chinese to English translation, covering techniques of translation of various text types, with a small research component. |
課程目標 |
Course Objectives
1. Eliminate basic grammatical errors, develop a sense of idiomatic English.
2. Apply syntactical, literary, generic and rhetorical analysis to the text types of CE translation.
3. Develop a sense of professionalism, which is to say principled survival strategies and an understanding of the role a CE translator plays in society. |
課程要求 |
Requirements:
1. Be on time (especially if you want to take the quizzes worth 20% of your final mark).
2. No web surfing (put your phones/computers at the front if you can’t stay off FB).
3. No plagiarism on the hw or the final project (rewarded with an instant fail in the course).
4. Open a Dropbox account, because the course materials are in a Dropbox folder.

Including taking charge of class discussion and commentary (including the production and discussion of a model translation), with EXCEL comparison and PPT for 1 week. |

Weekly homework of about 500 'words', with an average of five notes, parallel text with notes, to be discussed and revised in class, weekly Error Analysis Table (EAT) in WORD and EXCEL (or alternatively weekly CE translation related vocabulary or notes) handed in as a portfolio with 1 page self-evaluation at midterm and end-of-term. |

Paper on some aspect of the translation of some non-literary text type. |

The quiz will cover a listening assignment as well as the weekly reading. The translation will be marked and revised in class according to LTTC format (6 for accuracy, 4 for idiomaticity=10) |
