課程概述 |
With the wide availability and increasing accuracy of Machine Translation (MT) engines (Google Translate, Microsoft Bing Translator, DeepL and others), post-editing MT outputs to create the final version of a translation is now standard practice for many text genres. In this course we’ll learn to leverage recent (neural network/deep learning-based) MT systems to our advantage in order to create translations of acceptable quality. We aim to provide you with basic knowledge about post-editing (PE) so that you’ll be able to make educated decisions in your translation work. We’ll also investigate different problem-solving behaviors in translation from scratch (TfS) and post-editing (PE). |

• To understand the history and various technological incarnations of MT;
• To understand the advantages of different MT engines and the shortcomings of MT for some text types;
• To learn post-editing guidelines, strategies, interaction with CAT tools;
• To have plenty of post-editing practice on various text types: news, business, technology, university regulations, literary works, sports, press releases, and others. |

課程要求 |
We’ll tackle a different text type every two weeks and work on both translation directions. Each student will be responsible for explaining how they’ve arrived at their particular translation and for critiquing others’ work. |
