課程概述

Aim: This course is meant to provide a general picture of what physics is about for
life science majors.
Textbook: E. Hecht, Physics: Calculus, Brooks/Cole, 2000.
Grading policy: Homework 30%, midterm 35%, final 35%

2. Particle dynamics: Newton’s laws and conservation laws
(a) Newton’s three laws of motion
(b) Conservation of linear momentum, angular momentum, and energy, and how it
all comes about

3. Central force and gravitation
(a) Centripetal acceleration
(b) Kepler’s laws of planetary motion
(c) The law of gravitation, and the gravitational force due to a sphere

4. Rotational motion
