Course Description

This is a national program under Ministry of Education. It provides an opportunity for ALL NTU international students and local students to match with kids from (mostly countryside) schools of all 22 cities in Taiwan, including the islands. The format of the program contains both weekly Skyping (40 min) via internet and fully-sponsored field trips for meetups at the schools. Each international student will be paired up with a local student who will assist with the preparation, communication, and oral translation during the Skyping. Two official certificates, one by Ministry of Education and the other by NTU, will be issued to students of sufficient attendance in order to recognize their contribution.

Course Objective
The goal of the course is to provide a platform for cultural exchange. It connects the international students at NTU with the school kids from all cities in Taiwan, especially for the kids from the country side.
Course Requirement
This course accepts all types of international students at NTU. It also accepts local students to be paired up with the international students. The local students have to possess sufficient English proficiency in order to assist the oral translation during the Skyping. The students need to submit a picture taken during each weekly Skyping with a summary of at least two sentences. Throughout the semester, the students should not miss more than two Skyping sessions in order to pass the course.

Explanations for the conditions
1.
Attendance
100%
A+: Attend all the pre-arranged weekly Skype sessions. A: Miss one session. A-: Miss two sessions. Fail: Miss three or more sessions. A re-scheduling of the session within the SAME week would not be a miss, otherwise it's counted as a miss. Participation of the final field trips for meetups is optional, though strongly encouraged and may be treated as compensation for one missed session. The following cases would be counted as a miss of session: 1. Missing more than 15 minutes of any class. 2. No submission of the weekly report (at least one sentence is required in a report) 3. Incorrect picture in the report (e.g. a picture not taken in the session).
