Course Description |
This is a national program under Ministry of Education. It provides an opportunity for ALL NTU international students and local students to match with kids from (mostly countryside) schools of all 22 cities in Taiwan, including the islands. The format of the program contains both weekly Skyping (40-50 min) via internet and fully-sponsored field trips for meetups at the schools. Each international student will be paired up with a local student who will assist with the preparation, communication, and oral translation during the Skyping. Two official certificates, one by Ministry of Education and the other by NTU, will be issued to students of sufficient attendance in order to recognize their contribution.

Course Objective |
The goal of the course is to provide a platform for cultural exchange. It connects the international students at NTU with the school kids from all cities in Taiwan, especially for the kids from the country side. |
Course Requirement |
1. This course accepts all types of international and local students at NTU. Each international student will be paired up with a local student during the 3rd week.
2. Anyone taking this course has to register to the ICL system: http://icl.tw
The registration normally opens one week before the semester starts, and we announce it at both the ICL system and the FB (see below). Those who do not complete the registration by the announced deadline (see the course calendar below) will need to drop this course or they will fail this course.
3. When the Skype sessions start, the students need to maintain the on-line weekly reports, each of which includes a picture taken during the Skype session and a summary of at least two sentences.
4. Throughout the semester, the students should not miss more than two Skype sessions in order to pass the course.
5. The Mandarin-speaking students have to be qualified for sufficient English proficiency by meeting at least one of the following:
a. achieving a (averaged) grade of at least 80% for freshman-year English. (大一英文平均80分或以上)

Explanations for the conditions |
1. |
Attendance |
90% |
A+: Attend all the pre-arranged weekly Skype sessions.
A: Miss one session.
A-: Miss two sessions.
Fail: Miss three or more sessions.
A re-scheduling of the session within the SAME week would not be a miss, otherwise it's counted as a miss. Participation of the final field trips for meetups is optional, though strongly encouraged and may be treated as compensation for one missed session. The following cases would be counted as a miss of session:
1. Missing more than 15 minutes of any class.
2. No submission of the weekly report (at least two sentence is required in a report)
3. Incorrect picture in the report (e.g. a picture not taken in the session). |
2. |
Integrity |
10% |
A normal student would receive a full mark for this part, which is reserved for dealing with special cases such as the mis-behaviours of the students with concrete evidence. |
