This course will cover the following topics: basic concepts of thermodynamics and statistical thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium and electrochemical equilibrium, phase transition, diffusion.

The course will contain the following topics. The materials with * will depend on the available time.

Chapters 1-7,
1. temperature, equations of state
2. 1st law,
3. 2nd and third laws,
4. Fundamental equation of thermodynamics,
5. chemical equilibrium,

16. Statistical Mechanics (ideal gas, internal degrees of freedom, solid, Debye model)
Statistical Mechanics of Van der Waals liquid

6. phase equilibrium,
7. electrochemistry and Debye Huckel, electrophoresis

* 21. Macromolecules (Rg, freely rotation model, excluded volume, coil-globule transition)
* 20. Liquid (diffusion) (Langevin equation, diffusion equation, dynamic light scattering)

Establish important thermodynamics concepts and their microscopic interpretations.

Home work + one midterm and the final exams.
