課程概述 |
The main objectives of this course are to
(1) introduce key physical properties and processes of the ocean at a variety of spatial and temporal scales
(2) understand the driving mechanisms for these characteristics
Special emphasis is placed on applying conservation laws of the fluid to understand how ocean functions. |
課程目標 |
(1) Seawater properties: temperature, salinity, pressure and density
(2) Global energy budget
(3) Equation of motion on a rotating plane
(4) Balanced flow (geostrophic flow, thermal wind)
(5) Wind-driven circulation (Ekman layer, Sverdrup balance, and Western boundary currents, Vorticity dynamics)
(6) Abyssal ocean
(7) Coastal ocean processes |
