課程概述

Research in elementary particle physics is one of the most rewarding areas of research. It studies and discovers the laws
of Nauture. It is a field full of unknowns, excitments and new discoveries. The major goal of this course is to teach students
to use the Standard Model of strong and electroweak interactions
as the framework to analyze various problems related to particle Physics, with emphasison perspectives of future research in this field.
This course is a continuation of Particle physicsⅠ. Students interested in researches in theoretical or experimental particle physics are encouraged to take this course.

Contents
1. Some Basic.
Gauge symmetry; Lagrangian and Equation of Motions; Scattering and Decays; Feynman Rules.
2. The Standard Model of Strong and Electroweak Interactions.
The Standard Model Lagrangian; Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking; Parity and CP Violation; Electric Charge Quantization.
3. Interaction Involve Leptons
Charged lepton decays; Neutral and charged currents; Physics at the Z-pole.
4. Semileptonic Decays
β decay; Pion and Kaon decays; The Cabbibo angle and GIM mechanism; Decay of heavy quarks.
5. Hadronic Matrix Elements and Strong Interaction at Low Energies
Decay constants; Form factors; Hadromic matrix elements
6. Effective Theory
Chiral perurbation theory; Heavy quark effective theory.
7. The parton model
The parton model; Deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering; Drell-Yan process.
8. The physics of Z, W and Higgs
The Z, W and Higgs bosons; The production of W, Z and Higgs; The S, U, T parameters.
9. Beyond the Standard Model Extensions
Supersymmetry; Grand Unification; Neutrino Physics.

Introduced to the students modern particle physics based on the standard model of strong and electroweak interactions, and also some directions beyond the standard model.
