課程概述 |
This course introduces basic principles of classical mechanics using the standard textbook by Goldstein-Poole-Safko. It starts with Newton's law and covers variational principle, canonical formalism and Hamilton-Jacobi theory. Important applications to the problems of central force, rigid body, oscillation will be discussed in detail. It also covers special relativity and an introduction to field theory.
1 Survey of elementary principles
2 Variational principles and Lagrange's equations
3 The central force problem
4 Kinematics of rigid body motion
5 Rigid body equation of motion
6 Oscillations
7 Special theory of relativity
8 The Hamilton equations of motion
9 Canonical Transformations
10 Hamilton-Jacobi theory, Action angle variables
11 (skipped) classical chaos
12 Canonical perturbation theory
13 Continuous systems and fields |
課程目標 |
Classical Mechanics affords students an opportunity to realize the structure of physics, master the tehcniques of derivation and offers solid training on problem-solving. It can also serve as a springboard for advanced study modern physics and field theory. |
