課程概述

本學期建議目標為UV-NIR光譜儀及相關知識;學生可另訂目標,但需經教師同意

實驗步驟由學生設計、撰寫;實驗器材由學生設計、製造、架設

需完成指定之測量,並作適當之分析、討論,需與理論模型比較;需建立模型;需做數值估算
 

課程目標
Design and build a simple but functional experimental device (eg a spectrometer) for physical chemistry research.

The students will also write the teaching materials (Powerpoint format) for the next-year class.
 
課程要求
Design and set up (build) experimental apparatuses to perform the required measurements and compare with theoretical models.
Find and/or deduce the needed models.
Demonstrate your device is working
Oral presentation
分組做實驗,但每人皆要測自己的data,都要交預報(實驗設計)、結報(記錄、圖表、分析、討論等) 。預報、結報等要做到能發表的水準。

2/20  Introduction, Forming student groups, Basic devices (LED, lens, mirror, grating, photodiode detector, etc.), Budgeting, Thinking, etc.

2/27  Measure the light reflectance of a flat surface, including the dependences of the incidence angle and polarization. 
第3週
3/06  Measure the light reflectance of a soap film, including the time evolution. Deduce the thickness of the soap film from the reflectance data. 
第4週
3/13  Dispersion Grating: Wavelength range and resolution
Measure (and estimate or checked with a model) the relationship between the source slit width and the spectral resolution (in nm) of a diffraction grating.

Goals of Week 4 should also include:
(i) Measure the input and output angles of the diffracted light
(ii) Verify your results with the diffraction equation
(iii) Further verify your results by using a laser pointer
(iv) Estimate the ideal-case wavelength resolution for a given slit width at your experimental condition
