課程概述 |
Water is of critical importance for all life forms and represents a key component in nature and industrial processes. This course will describe chemical reactions and detail the quantitative treatments of important chemical processes both in fresh water and salt water systems, such as in rivers, lakes, estuaries, oceans, ground waters, and also wastewaters. The course is primarily aimed at undergraduate students in geology, earth sciences and environmental sciences, but also other students, e.g. in chemistry, agriculture, should also find the course useful. |
課程目標 |
The course provides fundamental understanding on chemical reactions in natural waters. It provides a comprehensive treatment of homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical equilibria in natural aquatic systems, which includes a brief review of chemical thermodynamics that is followed by discussion of acid/base reactions, atmosphere-water equilibria, coordination and complex formation, precipitation/dissolution reactions, reduction-oxidation reactions, and solid-solution interface reactions. Emphasis is on thermodynamic and kinetic equilibrium calculations as a tool for understanding the factors governing the chemical composition of given aquatic systems and the fate of many substances. This provides a solid foundation for understanding and evaluating how human activities can influence nature waters. |
