課程概述 |
Nitrogen is one of the essential major elements for all life forms, and is often one of the limiting nutrients for biological growth in various environment. In the same time, nitrogen cycle is one of the few natural cycles that is dominated by biological processes. As a result, nitrogen cycle provides us information on the interaction between biology and the Earth environment.
This is a graduate level seminar class on nitrogen cycles occurring in natural environment. We will review the classical studies in understanding nitrogen cycle to learn the basic knowledge as well as the classical tools. We will also select recent papers of new discoveries and new techniques.
|
課程目標 |
Students will learn the fundamentals of nitrogen cycle in natural environment by literature reviews. Students will practice Scientific presentations in English. |
課程要求 |
Students will be assigned readings and presentations each week. Students are expected to read at least one journal article each week and give English presentations at least every other week. Students are expected to spend much time reading, preparing, discussing off class.
Students with microbial biology or chemistry background may find it easier to understand some research topics. Students without these background knowledge are expected to spend more time off class for preparing.
All the readings, discussions, presentations will be in English.
