課程概述

這是一個關於發展研究批判的研讀課程，批判的目的不在於指出發展的錯誤，而是要將發展視為一種特定社會、歷史與地理脈落下的一些知識與想法的assemblage。換言之，我們將不會視發展為一個清楚界定的研究領域，而是要考察起源、假設與知識形式，並且特別要處理地理學視角在這過程的可能貢獻。這樣的批判發展地理學的研究，目的不在“修正”發展的錯誤，或者指出發展的正確方向，而在於透過了解發展的複雜性，以及了解經常這樣複雜性被主流或反對的論點給忽視，進而造成非預期結果。

課程目標

訓練學生了解發展的歷史、議題，以及相關的研究取向，以及衍生的問題。

課程要求

一、因為所有上課學生都將被要求參與討論，因此基本上不歡迎旁聽，除非願意盡同樣的義務（每次上課學生就所閱讀的主要教材寫成一頁的心得，以便上課交換）。
二、每一個學生都必須閱讀指定的主要教材（約每星期120頁的英文文章），並輪流帶領課堂上的討論，參與課堂討論發問（佔40%學期成績）
三、書面報告：一篇各約25到30頁（MS-Word format, double-spaced, in 12-point scale，楷字字體，標有頁碼）有關發展研究的批判性報告，除了在課堂上進行計劃書報告，並且期末按照約定時間繳交書面與電子檔報告（佔60%學期成績）。
